Hardwar, the gateway to Garhwal
Sitiuted on the foothills of the Himalayas, Hardwar is a bustling town. Innumerous temples, hundreds of dharamsalas and ashrams are dotted all over the city. It boasts of a colorful market, accomodation of all types, good restaurants, food joints and lots of eateries for the travellers and pilgroms too.
Built on the banks of the river Ganges (or Ganga as it is commonly known) Hardwar is one of the most sacred pilgrimages for the Hindus.
It is well connected by rail and road routes from different parts of India.

Har-Ki-Paori Ghat, on the river Ganges
Pilgrims awaiting for "Sandhya Arti" to begin...
"Sandhya Arti"- meaning a devotional ritual taken at sunset is one of the main attractions in this city.
At about 5.30 pm onwards hundreds of visitors line up opposite the Har-ki-pauri , on the pavement of the Clock Tower and wait for the Arti to begin.
And with the onset of darkness starts a wonderful song and worship ritual , full with lighted torches and Pujaris (priests) worshipping river Ganga enthralling the audience of varied cultures and tastes.
And a leisurely stroll through the Chowk(market) adjacent to the Ghat completes a wonderful day...

Places to visit in and around Hardwar are :
